Task 2.1 (Synopsis)

Journey

The Genre of The Film is Fantasy

This film is based on the life of two characters, a geek who is 18 years old and he goes to a high school in South England. He is bullied by his peers for looking like a geek because he wears big glasses, has braces and freckles on his cheeks. The other character who is the popular kid of the school, is very handsome and gets followed by all the girls he is also admired by all the boys. The geek Ernie, is very unhappy with his life and wishes he was like the popular boy Joey. Joey is very happy with his life but takes his looks and popularity for granted. These two boys paths have never crossed before but on this one magical day they bumped into each other while Ernie was late for his maths club and Joey was late for soccer practice. An amazing magical transformation happened, their lives had totally changed forever as they had swapped lives! They both made a deal that they had to carry out each others everyday tasks, so Ernie had to play soccer and Joey had to go to maths and chess club. This was very difficult for the both of them and they desperately wanted to magically change back but they did not know how. After 3 days they both kept having dreams about an angel telling them there is only one way they can go back to normal. The next day they both speak about what the angel had told them but neither could figure out the one way, which would make them go back to normal.

Task 1.3 (Pre-lim - Evaluation)

After we had put together our short piece of footage it premiered to the class. We then had to self-evaluate our piece, we then handed over the to the rest of our peers who offered positive and constructive comments towards our video.

When self evaluating we came up with a few things which could have been improved or changed video. One of these would be the continuity of the shots where by myself (Liam the male character) in one shot had my arm around the Rachel, however in the next shot my arm had moved. Positive aspects we found was that we kept to the 180 degree rule which made the footage aesthetically pleasing for the audience. Our thoughts on our own piece were confirmed by our peers who noticed another continuity error where by the shot changed when I walked through the door and joined Rachel. Although noticing errors they also commented on how we kept to the 180 degree rule well and made a good piece of footage which they enjoyed.

In conclusion I feel that we could have edited the film more smoothly in order to cancel out some continuity errors, however I still feel we made a good video which demonstrated what we needed to.

Task 1.2 (Pre-lim - Editing)

Once we had completed filming our footage we returned to the media room to upload our footage the Apple Macbook. We used a program called iMovie HD and started to edit our clips. For the first two opening clips we used the fade out transition to give a slow effect as the mood is sad as she is about to break up with the male charecter so we thought this would be an appropiate effect to add in.

One problem we found when editing was that one piece of footage did not match up with the following clip. The footage showed the two characters sitting together with the male having his arm round the female however in the next clip the arm had disappeared. We could not combat this mistake in our amateur film as we had finished shooting.

Towards the end of the sequence we used fad out transitions to show the emotional trauma the male character is going through and that time is an eternity for him. We also had to edit some of the clips as they dragged on a bit and were not what the audience would have wanted to see. We also had to edit out some sound at the beginning of each clip where the camerawoman has said "go".

After editing I feel we had composed a well put together piece which would hopefully be pleasing and interesting audience.

Task 1.2 (Pre-lim - Filming)

After our storyboard had been composed and put together, we decided to start filming our sequence. The original idea had been to use the school hall as the meeting place for the two lovers. However exams were taking place in this area so we took the initiative and used a classroom with a corridor adjacent to it. We also lacked some rescources such as a tripod as other media student were also filming we therefore used a variety of objects such as books and folders to build a platform for our camera. This solved our problem and made sure out footage was not wobbly.

Throughout the sequence we kept to the 180 degree rule to give the audience an aesthetically pleasing piece of film. We also included a variety of shot types such as establishing shots and over the shoulder shots. Due to the absence of the tripod we were unable to add in any worms eye view or birds eye view shots. However I feel the piece we produced came together well even with the absence of some key resources.
